Will His Heart Go On?

Will His Heart Go On? is easily the most personal fanfic I have ever written.  You won’t be able to tell, but I will more than likely tear up as I type this.

I wrote this during Latin class halfway through sophomore year of high school.  I started writing this on a Monday morning, at around the time posted throughout the fic (it ended up taking longer than that to write, but it fits).  My friend Matt was scheduled to have surgery on his heart at 8:30am that day.

After all these events took place I found out that Matt was being treated for a very rare form of cancer, a primary cardiac tumor, or heart cancer.  We always knew that he had a problem with his heart, but only his parents knew it was cancer.

I looked up to Matt as an older brother, which is a role he filled pretty well considering he is an older brother anyway.  That morning, I found myself wondering how Matt’s little brother was handling things, and that’s how this story was born.  With the name Matt, and with my thoughts centered on his little brother, this just evolved into a Digimon fanfic.

Because this was written in class, all of my teacher’s quotes were actually said that day in class.  I wrote them in as I heard them.  Class was like that every day, it’s a wonder I actually did decently in that class with all of the fanfic I wrote during it and the amount of time went spent not learning about Latin.

A little over seven months after this was written, Matt lost his battle with cancer.  There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t miss him.  I used to participate in Relay for Life in general support of cancer research, but now I walk in honor of Matt.

“It’s 8:00 on a Monday morning in Latin class, and TK has a lot more on his mind than trying to focus in class, like a certain someone’s surgery in a half hour… based on a true story.”

The Contract

So I’ve decided to go in chronological order for the completed fics section.  That means, we’re starting off with The Contract.

This is one of my shorter fictions, and was born during a Model United Nations meeting WAYYY back in high school.  Combine over-dramatic teenage boys with a game of Truth or Dare, and you get this story as the product…results may vary.

If you have ever played Truth or Dare with your friends, and have treated it as a life or death situation, this is the story for you!  Or something…
