Hey everyone!
Those of you who have been following me for about a year now may remember that I participate in Relay for Life every year. Well, this year is no exception! Relay is just 60 days away for my school!
(I’m sorry I don’t know how to insert cuts in a picture caption, you can skip to the bolded part if you don’t want to read my sob story)
In just under one month, I will be turning 21, and it pains me to know that so many people will not reach that age. One of my absolute best friends, someone I consider a brother, passed away four and a half years ago, well before he could reach adulthood.
I’m sure every one of my followers can name at least one person who has been affected by cancer in your life. In fact, my grandfather died from cancer before I was even born. He used to be my only link to cancer that I knew of, and it honestly didn’t hurt that much because I never knew him and I never knew what I had been robbed of. Then in high school, I found out that my grandmother had been hiding the fact that she had breast cancer. My grandmother lives with me, so this was the equivalent of one of my parents hiding such a large secret. It wasn’t until I overheard that she had to get a lumpectomy that I found out on my own. This was all soon after the death of my friend.
It wasn’t until this point that cancer truly pained my heart. Though I’ve been a Relay participant for most of my life, walking every year now has more meaning to me.
I don’t know if I’ll get any responses from this, but if you have anything to spare, I would really appreciate it if you could donate to my Relay for Life team. Even if you can’t donate, please reblog this post to others! I Relay because I want people to live through their 21st birthday, like I will hopefully have the fortune to, and grow old with their family. And I hope you share this feeling.
HELP DONATE and give others the chance for more birthdays. Cancer can be beaten, with your help.
tl;dr: I would really appreciate if you could either DONATE and/or REBLOG this post!

Relay for Life at WPI is less than a week away, and I would really appreciate any last minute donations! I’ve been relaying for several years now, but for these past couple years, I’ve been walking for someone I considered a friend and a brother by everything but blood. I became 20 years old exactly one month ago. My friend never had the chance. Please help me support the effort to find a cure! <3
I really appreciate the support everyone, and again, even if you can’t donate, please REBLOG to help spread the word! Thanks, everyone!!
So today is my birthday, and as I turn 20, I realize that there are so many people out there that will never reach their 20th birthday.
Most people can name at least one person in their life who has cancer or has been affected my cancer. Personally, I lost one of my best friends to cancer, and I can’t help but feel saddened that he never managed to escape his teenage years.
I’m posting this on Tumblr because the only way I know of to do my part and try to find a way to cure cancer is to donate to the American Cancer Society through Relay for Life.
I’ve been a participant in Relay for Life for ages, but it wasn’t until Matt’s death a couple years ago that I really took its mission personally.
