Anonymous asked: In your Google Maps post about Takuya, how do you know it's the right intersection? Just wondering =)

I don’t know if it’s the actual intersection, I just think I found one that fits.  Unlike Digimon Adventure, we don’t know how accurate the layout of Takuya’s house and area is because they aren’t as well known landmarks.  Jiyugaoka Station however is pretty accurate, according to Google Street View, so I was really hoping there would be a similar intersection.

These two pictures just show the hedges on one side of the road and the incline of the road.  In the Street View picture, we are looking up the street from the intersection whereas in the screenshot, we are looking towards the intersection.

Here is the intersection itself.  The sun setting in the screenshot shows that direction is west, which is what the Street View picture shows in the bottom corner (the corner is oriented north).

Here’s the road Takuya runs down to get to the station.  Notice the buildings on the right and the greenery on the left.

Here’s the intersection Takuya turns onto to get to the station.  Even the orange covers are the same!

And finally, here’s the actual Jiyugaoka Station, with the ticket stations and the train platform above.

All in all, everything looks pretty accurate in the city, with some obvious animation generalizing, and I think I was just lucky in finding a residential area that looks very similar to Takuya’s that happens to be the right distance from the train station. :)

I just spent 2 hours studying Google Maps…

…trying to locate where Takuya would live in relation to Jiyugaoka Station, the station from which he takes the train to Shibuya Station.  I think I actually found the intersection where Takuya almost gets run over by the truck, or an intersection very much resembling it.  And it’s oriented the right way and everything, since the sun was setting down a certain street in the show, and that direction is West on Google Maps.  I even used Street View to make sure, and there’s the road on a hill on which Takuya lives.  And this intersection is 11 minutes walking distance from Jiyugaoka Station.  Since Takuya had a little less than 5 minutes to get there, and he was running the whole time, this is a totally plausible distance.

Yay research for fanfiction!!

Now that I (think I) know where Takuya lives, I can start looking into schools in the area and such. :)

I love that the Digimon series uses the actual layout of Japan for its scenes ^_^
