Danny’s Bad Day

Halfway through my Danny Phantom 10 Post Challenge, it’s time for the rundown on Danny’s Bad Day.

So as you’ve probably gathered by now, this is the companion fic to Dash’s Bad Day.  After writing about Dash’s reaction to Danny’s outburst (and having fun coming up with things to screw with his day), I found myself wondering “How did Danny get to that point, and how did he react to himself pulling that stunt?”  I always had it in mind that Danny was in a fight with Vlad, mostly because I wanted Danny to be as wearisome and pissed off as possible before facing Dash (sorry Danny).  I had no idea that Danny and Vlad’s fight would turn out as introspective as it did.

Until a recent marathon I’ve been having watching all the episodes, I never realized how close together Reign Storm and The Ultimate Enemy occur.  Literally, only Identity Crisis and The Fenton Menace happen between them.  This ended up working out perfectly, because in addition to Danny’s new fears about Dan, Vlad’s rambling is very similar to Reign Storm where he continuously pointed out to Danny how similar they are.  Hearing these similarities and the temptations that Vlad is listing so soon after his run in with Dan, Danny is in more turmoil than ever.

And after the fruit loop messes with his head like that, he almost immediately runs into Dash, who taunts him and mistakenly calls him “Dan,” which was probably one of the worst things Dash could have called him.  After the events of The Ultimate Enemy, which I imagine have taken place about a week or less prior, and after his fight with Vlad, I would imagine Danny would snap if someone alluded that he was like Dan.  Dash just happened to be the unfortunate target for that outburst.

I like how Danny handled himself after his run in with Dash.  At first he was scared of himself and what he had done, but in the end it just furthered his resolve to avoid becoming Dan.

I find it somewhat ironic that I finished this story when I was supposed to be studying for finals, just like with Dash’s Bad Day.  Except this time it was a year and a half later, halfway through senior year of high school.

Stay tuned for the rest of my Danny Phantom 10 Post Challenge!

“Danny’s day was not going well. Start with a new invention, a crazed-up fruitloop, and—what did Dash just call me?”

Dash’s Bad Day

Dash’s Bad Day is a short fic that I wrote when I was supposed to be studying for 2nd semester finals sophomore year of high school.  I tend to write my best fanfictions when I’m supposed to be doing something else.  Go figure ^_^

I got the idea of this from re-watching The Ultimate Enemy for the thousandth time and soon after watching Reign Storm, when Danny uses his powers to get back at Dash.  I know, the movies aren’t in order, but that’s what tends to happen with reruns.  Anyway, during Reign Storm, Danny eventually learns that just because he has powers, it doesn’t mean he should use them to get back at people who’ve done him wrong.  Not to mention how much Vlad was trying to convince Danny how alike they were (more about that for Danny’s Bad Day).

So anyway, after The Ultimate Enemy, I can imagine that Danny would be much more self conscious about using his powers for the wrong reasons, and he would probably freak out about anyone insinuating he was similar to his older evil self.  Dash’s Bad Day and Danny’s Bad Day take place very soon after TUE, so the wounds are still fresh in Danny’s mind.

I know that technically Dan Phantom is the phandom (see what I did there? ^_^) term for Danny’s evil older self (others including Dark Dan and Dark Danny), so I included a bit of explanation in Danny’s Bad Day as to why Danny would freak out to the name “Dan.”

More to come about these stories in the soon-to-come post for Danny’s Bad Day.

Dash wasn’t sure what happened, but one thing was for sure: he would never call Danny Fenton by that name ever again.
